[Tourist Spot Introduction] Walking through the traditional streets of Takayama, Gifu Prefecture

Takayama City is located in the northern part of Gifu Prefecture. It is a tourist destination where old townscapes remain. It takes about an hour and a half from Gifu Station on the JR Takayama Line (or by bus). If you are coming from Tokyo, you can also board from Nagoya Station. ① Old Townscape 1-3 This is the main tourist spot in Takayama. There are many shops such as restaurants, cafes, souvenirs, crafts, miscellaneous goods, Japanese confectionery shops, and liquor stores. It is also a fun area to walk around while eating mitarashi dango and local gourmet gohei mochi. ② Sake Theme Park (Funasaka Sake Brewery) 4 This is a place where you can sample many types of sake. (Charged) Takayama City has many sake breweries. It might be fun to go around the breweries and drink your way around. You can purchase a bite-sized sake cup for 500 yen and sample one sip at a time for a reasonable price. There are many types, so it might be a good idea to buy something delicious as a souvenir. ③ Nakabashi 5 A photogenic spot where the red color matches the cityscape perfectly. The clear, colorless water and the sound of the river will cool you down during the hot summer. It's also nice to walk along the river. ④ Takayama City Hall Memorial Hall 6-7 This is the city hall and town hall building used during the Meiji and Showa periods. You can learn more about Takayama City. It's also fun to be able to freely look inside the Japanese houses. Admission is free. ⑤ Takayama Showakan 8 This is a museum where you can travel back in time to the Showa period. Nostalgic signs and products are lined up throughout the building, and the scenery of that time is reproduced. It's a place you can enjoy with your children. ⑥ Hie Shrine 9-10 It can be accessed by bus in about 15 minutes from the center. This is the shrine that was the model for the movie "Your Name". The stairs are relatively gentle, and there is also a slope, so it's not too difficult to climb to the top. The grounds are surrounded by trees, and the sunlight passes through softly, creating a cool, comfortable, and mysterious space. All of these places can be accessed within 30 minutes on foot or by bus from Takayama Station.
