Ise Shrine's Guardian of Wind and Rain: Kazahinomi-no-miya

As you step into the inner sanctuary of Ise Jingu and follow the tranquil path along the Isuzu River, you’ll discover a hidden sacred space not far ahead—Kazahinomi-no-miya. This shrine, one of the "Betsugu" (auxiliary shrines) of Ise Jingu's Inner Shrine, is dedicated to the wind deities Kaze-no-Kami, "Shinatsuhiko-no-Mikoto" and "Shinatobe-no-Mikoto." These deities are revered as protectors of wind and rain, ensuring the safety of agriculture and maritime activities. Starting from the main shrine, you’ll cross a wooden bridge and walk through a serene forest path. In just a few minutes, it feels as though you’ve entered a natural sanctuary blessed by the gods. The main hall of the shrine is built in the traditional Shinmei-zukuri architectural style. Its simplicity and lack of ornate decorations enhance its sacred and tranquil atmosphere. This peaceful spot was one of the most calming corners I encountered during my visit. Kazahinomi-no-miya is also deeply tied to Japanese history.
