Stroll around Naramachi, a town rich in the characteristics of the Edo period

Naramachi is an old commercial town with a long history in Nara. There are many townhouses in Naramachi, which are rich in Edo period characteristics. Most of them have been transformed into museums, fashionable craft shops, unique coffee shops☕️ and Japanese desserts🍧 shops. In Naramachi, you can also find the world cultural heritage Gango-ji Temple, which is one of the seven major temples in Nara. It retains the architectural features of the Nara period (8th century). The roof of the main hall, Gokuraku-do, is paved with tiles and has a history of more than 1,300 years. Naramachi is not very large, you can wander around without following a map, and there will be many surprises.
