Lunch At Everton Park’s Calmest Corner: Where Aesthetic Meets Appetite

#summervacay Tucked away in the quiet corners of Everton Park, Cafe Wabi Sabi was one of those stops we didn’t plan for, but were glad we made. The café has a minimalist, almost meditative feel—soft greys, raw textures, light wood, and quiet chatter filling the small space. Despite being packed on the afternoon we visited, the place still somehow felt calming, as if its aesthetic had managed to hush the buzz just enough. We managed to grab a small table after a short wait and ordered the chicken sando and pork katsu donburi—both simple, comforting plates that didn’t try too hard yet delivered all the right notes. The chicken sando came with a thick slab of juicy chicken, lightly crisp on the outside, tucked between slices of fluffy house-made shokupan. The bread was gently toasted, still pillowy inside, and paired nicely with the fresh greens and tangy-sweet dressing. It was filling, but not heavy. Just enough to make you pause between bites. The pork katsu donburi was equally satisfying. A generous cutlet laid over warm steamed rice, drizzled in savoury tonkatsu sauce, with a soft-boiled egg and some seasonal sides—ours had a bit of corn and lightly pickled cucumber. Every bite had that balance of crunch and softness, saltiness and sweetness. It wasn’t trying to reinvent anything, but it didn’t need to. What made the experience feel special was the atmosphere. Even with all the seats filled and a steady stream of people coming in, there was something quietly intentional about the space. It had that stripped-down, wabi-sabi charm—nothing flashy, but everything in place. Outside, a couple of small tables lined the walkway, shaded by overhead greenery. Inside, a few people were tucked into corners with their laptops, sipping fizzy drinks that came in dreamy shades of lavender and blue. This isn’t the kind of café that screams for attention—but it lingers. The kind you might forget to take a photo of because you’re too busy enjoying the moment. Or the kind you return to the next time you're in the neighbourhood, because something about the food, the stillness, and the feel of the place just stays with you.
