Phu Khao Kaew Temple, Ubon Ratchathani Province

Wat Phu Khao Kaew, Amphoe Phibun Mangsahan, Ubon Ratchathani Province, is a temple where Somdej Phra Mahawirawong (Tissa Uan) asked Phra Khru Wiwek Phutthakit (Sao Kantasilo) to consider building a forest meditation temple as a place to make merit and a center for practicing Dhamma and training the mind of the villagers in Phibun Mangsahan District. Inside the temple, the temple is outstandingly beautiful with a glazed tile chapel. Wat Phu Khao Kaew was originally a Phu Din cemetery located on a high hill before entering Phibun Mangsahan District. In 1937, Somdej Phra Mahawirawong (Tissa Uan) asked Phra Ajahn Sao Kantasilo to consider finding a way to build a forest meditation temple in Phibun Mangsahan District because many of his relatives had migrated from Ban Khaen, Don Mot Daeng, to settle in Ban Pho Tak, Amphoe Phibun Mangsahan. He wanted to have a meditation temple to help teach Dhamma to his relatives and to please the relatives and villagers to have a place to make merit and a center for practicing Dhamma and training the mind of the villagers. Therefore, he ordered Phra Ajahn Sengiam and Phra Ajahn Dee Channo to establish a meditation center at the said location, with Somdej Phra Mahawirawong (Tissa Uan) providing support.
