Hiroshima: A Journey Through Painful History and a Message of Peace

Hiroshima is not just a tourist destination; it is a city where one can reflect on history and feel the importance of peace. Throughout the trip, I was left with a calm and profound impression. The first stop was the Peace Memorial Park and the Atomic Bomb Dome. Seeing the Atomic Bomb Dome, which bears the scars of war, made me feel solemn, and the Peace Bell and monuments in the park silently conveyed a powerful message. Visiting the Peace Memorial Museum and seeing the records and artifacts from that time left me deeply moved. Next, I took a boat to Miyajima. The red torii gate of Itsukushima Shrine, seemingly floating on the sea, was truly mystical and beautiful. The changing scenery depending on the tide was also impressive, and the deer freely roaming around the shrine added a touch of fun to the trip. Hiroshima's cuisine was also exceptional. Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki, layered and grilled on a teppan, was soft and flavorful, and the fresh Hiroshima oyster dishes were a must-try delicacy. Lastly, I visited Hiroshima Castle, which was rebuilt after the war. Despite being reconstructed, the castle and its surrounding gardens exuded a tranquil atmosphere. Inside the castle, exhibits on Hiroshima's history and culture provided another opportunity for learning. Hiroshima is a city that remembers its painful past while spreading a message of peace, and it is also a place where one can enjoy nature, cuisine, and tradition. Even after the trip ended, the experience remained deeply etched in my heart.
