Hiroshima: A Journey Where the Past and Peace Coexist

Hiroshima is one of the most emotionally profound cities in Japan. While it holds the tragic memories of war, it also offers spaces that convey peace, making the journey all the more meaningful. I first visited the Peace Memorial Park and the Atomic Bomb Dome. The Atomic Bomb Dome, preserved at the hypocenter, starkly revealed the horrors of war through its mere presence. At the Peace Memorial Museum, I viewed records and artifacts from that time, which left me deeply moved. The park was dotted with peace monuments and countless paper cranes symbolizing hope. Next, I took a ferry to Miyajima. The red torii gate of Itsukushima Shrine, appearing to float on the sea, was truly mystical and beautiful. The scenery changed dramatically with the tides, offering two distinct charms, and the freely roaming deer around the shrine were also memorable. Hiroshima's cuisine was equally special. The Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki, layered and grilled on a teppan, was hearty and flavorful, while the seasonal Hiroshima oysters were fresh and delicate—a must-try delicacy. Lastly, I visited Hiroshima Castle. Although it was reconstructed after the war, the serene surroundings created a calming atmosphere. Inside, the exhibits provided insights into another facet of Hiroshima's history and culture. Hiroshima is a city that remembers its painful past while promoting peace. It is also a destination where you can enjoy nature, tradition, and cuisine. It offers not just sightseeing but a deeply enriching experience that lingers in your heart for a long time.
