Hiroshima: A Journey Where the Past and Present Coexist

Hiroshima is one of the most thought-provoking cities in Japan. It carries the tragic memories of war while standing as a symbol of peace, which was deeply moving and allowed me to explore the city with a calm and reflective heart throughout my trip. I first visited the Peace Memorial Park and the Atomic Bomb Dome. The Atomic Bomb Dome, preserved as it was, silently conveyed the scars of war, while the Peace Bell and countless paper cranes in the park expressed the hope that such tragedies would never be repeated. At the Peace Memorial Museum, I saw vivid records and artifacts from the time, which reminded me of the preciousness of peace. Next, I took a ferry to Miyajima. The iconic red torii gate of Itsukushima Shrine, seemingly floating on the sea, was truly breathtaking. The scenery changed with the tides, creating a mystical atmosphere, and the freely roaming deer added to the tranquil vibe of the area. Hiroshima's food was also impressive. The multi-layered Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki was hearty and delicious, and the fresh Hiroshima oyster dishes were tender and flavorful, leaving me thoroughly satisfied. Lastly, I visited Hiroshima Castle, which was rebuilt after the war. Despite being a reconstruction, it blended harmoniously with the surrounding scenery, offering a serene ambiance. The exhibits inside provided insights into another aspect of Hiroshima's history. Hiroshima is a city that remembers its painful past while symbolizing peace. It’s a destination where you can enjoy nature, tradition, and cuisine all at once. Beyond sightseeing, it offered a unique experience that will stay in my heart for a long time.
